Subtle Healing with Yogic Humming

Today we celebrate all Fathers and Father figures of the world.  The men that are Dads, the women that are Dads and all the many individuals that have stepped in for Fathers that are missing.  They bring strength and a grounding energy to our lives.

Mikhail & Brian
This is Brian's weekend so I'm going to give him the floor.  He'll share his weekend and a few of the gifts that he shares with me daily.  I'm the lucky one - I have a live in Yogi at my disposal. (Happy Dance!!) When the world gets a spinning he's my "go to" guy for breath and balance.  His teaching are simple and  the element that is needed the most.  Happy Fathers Day Sweet Heart!

Brian Here!  For Fathers Day I had the opportunity to work with my son Mikhail at Raquette Lake.  We worked with a group of Cortland State College students who where in charge of orientation for all new incoming students.  Our objective was to improve their trust and communication skills through an Adirondack Adventure in the woods. We were doing low-rope initiatives.  The biggest lesson of the day came when we were doing a simple 12 piece rectangular puzzle. The puzzle was simple enough for 5 year old to do, yet it became a graduate level puzzle when the students were required to put it together blind folded.  The lesson for the day was that subtle changes can make a profound difference.  Taking away the students senses(by blind folding) forced them to learn trust, faith and communication.

As a Yoga Teacher I'm always reminding my students that "less is more"!  Just as taking away the one element of sight dramatically changed the experience and outcome, so does Yoga make dramatic subtle changes to the individual.  Look at your own life situations and see what subtle changes that you can make to create a life of balance.  The following breath exercise is called the Humming Breath. If done consistently you will begin to see subtle changes within yourself.

Humming Breath
Sitting in chair comfortably.
Take in a deep breath releasing with a sigh, releasing anything you no longer desire. Imagine that you are a bee.  Breath deeply into your belly, and then as you exhale, hum.  Allow your face and lips to soften and listen to yourself.  What do you hear within?  Continue at your own pace for several breaths (8-12 times is a good start).  Feel free to work with this breath for as long as you desire.  Feel the energy change - the subtle shift in the way you feel and see the world.

This is a Yogi's example of a subtle change making a big difference.  Namaste` Brian

Brian has a little friend that has been visiting our window daily.  He actually clings to the window edge and he and Brian whistle to each other. Everyday since early spring Brian has been looking for his little buddy.  He said that when he saw his Cardinal he new it would be a good day and everything would be alright. This prompted me to look up the Animal Totem for Cardinal. This is what I found - Cardinal:  Recognizing your Self Importance.  Cardinal reminds us that no matter what time of the day or year it is, there is always the opportunity to recognize the importance of our life purpose.  If Cardinal appears, it is time to pay attention to your health and well-being.  It is also a time to listen to the feminine side, the aspects of creativity and intuition.  They remind us to add "color to our life and to remember that everything you do is important.  http://www.linsdomain.com/totems/pages/cardinal.htm

This juice recipe is from Judy.  One of her favorite blood cleansing beverages.  Great for cleansing the liver and kidneys. I find it a refreshing way to start my day.
