Limeade with Ginger & Basil

This is one of our favorite drinks. We like to enjoy it during those  insanely hot days of July and August. It is quick to make, but won't last long, so make sure you have plenty of limes/lemons around to make another batch.

Add Lemon/Lime or both
This is a loose recipe that you can easily change to suite your taste buds. If you are creating super simple summer meals of fresh raw/steamed veggies, adding this drink can supply the 6 tastes without making yourself nuts. Modifications will be at the bottom of the recipe.

Limeade with Ginger & Basil
Serves 8

Ingredients-
1-2 Lime juice (depending on how intense you like your lime)
1-2 teaspoon lime zest
4 cups water (boiled in the morning and allowed to come to room temp.)
2 tsp raw sugar, honey or agave (more to taste)
2 inches of fresh ginger
1/2 cup fresh basil leaves

Peel and chunk ginger. Zest 1 -2 teaspoons lime zest. Juice limes.

Pink Salt..Hmmm
Put zest, lime juice, ginger chunks, basil leaves and sweetener and  1 cup water into blend. Blend until smooth.

Add the blended juice to 3 cups water. Garnish with lime and basil leaves.

*I used 1 lime and 2 lemon. I usually keep adding and tasting until my tongue is happy. Our family prefers a tangy drink but, you could certainly sweeten it more.

Cooling & Refreshing for a hot summer day!
Modifications:
High Pitta -reduce/remove Basil and add Cilantro or mint  - or a combination (basil is heating & Cilantro and mint are cooling)
High Kapha - stick with honey
Rim your class with a little pink salt and you'll have all 6 taste!

Blessings to all!
Lemon-Lime kisses!
With love
Naomi & Brian
