Morning Chai! |
This is a recipe that Brian and I learned from our teacher Dr. Vijay Jain while we were at Amrit Yoga Institute. Once the recipe was shared with our class it became the "Golden Moment" when tea time rolled around.
Cardamom: is warming and improves digestion and counteracts the effects of caffeine
Black Pepper: is warming, improves digestion
Ginger: will improve circulation, strengthens digestive fire, helps with absorption and burns toxins (ama)
Cinnamon: is effective with toxic (ama) conditions, improves digestion and circulation
Cloves: will stimulate digestion and help clear congestion in lungs and sinuses
Vijay's Chai Tea Masala-
Melding in grinding bowl |
1 teaspoon Black Pepper
2 teaspoon Ginger
1/2 teaspoon Cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon Cloves
Mix spices together and store in an air tight container.
Mixing in grinding bowl will break up any spices that might be clumping |
We make up a 1/2 gallon everyday and the entire family drinks it throughout the day.
Single Serving -
Make a cup of black tea, green or herbal tea (black tea is traditionally used)
Add 1/4 teaspoon of Masala. Add Milk (cows, almond or rice) and sweetener to taste!
Yummy Spiciness! |
Group Serving -
Bring 2 quarts of water to a boil and simmer 8 teaspoons (or 8 tea bags) of black tea.
Simmer 5-6 minutes. Add the entire mixture above to the pot and mix well. Ladle up adding milk of choice and sweetener of choice to taste.
This beautiful blend has helped us get through the crazy freezing temperatures this winter. Stay warm and enjoy!
Warm Chai kisses!
Blessings to all!
Namaste`
Naomi
