Finding Order In Your Day

Sunset in the valley

We have started a new practice at our house. Every Thursday Mikhail (our son) is in charge of our evening meal.  God I love Thursdays!!  This week he taught me a new word - Miseen place

Recipe here.
Mise en place (MEEZ ahn plahs) is a French term for having all your ingredients measured, cut, peeled, sliced, grated, etc. before you start cooking. Pans are prepared. Mixing bowls, tools and equipment set out. It is a technique chefs use to assemble meals so quickly and effortlessly.
Well this got me thinking about all the other time in my day that a little Mise en place could probably make my day easier. Most of the time we frantically multi-task our way through the day. This puts a great strain on our nervous systems.  So maybe we all need some help getting our ducks in a row.

Mindful planning, that is the challenge for this week. It's a challenge for you too! Prepping ahead with a calendar gives you the opportunity to visualize and manifest how your day will unfold. Brian and I have been doing this over the weekend.  We started working together to plan out what appointments, clients, chores, classes and meals that would be filling our week. We were consciously looking for ways to simplify tasks so that we had more time for FUNN! (Functional Understanding Not Necessary!)
So how did our weekly Mise en place look? We created a meal plan and shopping list for the week. Mapped out how to organize our appointments around our clients for the most efficient day. Now, life may certainly interrupt our well planned week...it happens all the time. We will be starting this week with our mise en place in order.
