Weathering Winter with Noodles!

Mother Nature in Hibernation Mode
Bitter is the taste of the season right now.  What does that mean for you?  It's bitter outside - literally - let's not let that happen within. It means you need to stay warm inside and outside - internally and externally! Warm Chai - spicy stews and warm goodies from the oven.  Oh and Noodles...don't forget noodles!!

It means that the sweet, salty and sour are our go-to tastes right now. (Remember to practice caution with sweet...we just finished our holiday overload of sweet...mindful eating people!) "Cultivate the opposite " is Brian's mantra.  Finding the beauty and/or generating the opposite energy of the winter season is a powerful practice. Warming yet gentle yoga practices and breath work, warm fresh cooked meals, gentle reading and my favorite - hitting the kitchen.

I find that bringing color to your plate is an beautiful way to lighten and brighten your energy. This brings me to the dish of the day...Noodles with Lemon & Peas! A little Surya (Sun) on your plate. I love the color and fresh taste that the lemons bring to this dish.
King Soba noodle culture

I love love noodles - always have - always will!  Going gluten-free about 6 years ago came with challenges.  The biggest GF hurtle was finding a replacement for my beloved noodles. I recently found a new gluten-free goodie, King Soba Organic Pumpkin, Ginger & Rice Noodles.  This is the pasta that I used in the recipe that you'll find below.
Resting reeds

It is only natural for us to become contracted and withdrawn...Mother Nature commands this.  Cold weather, freezing hazardous driving conditions, little sun, gray days pretty much demands that we hunker down and stay indoors.  We fight this condition - go to work, shopping and  many other things that consume our days.  A little snow isn't going to stop us, but maybe we should take a step back. Our inner natural inclination is to go within, hibernate and wait for spring to arrive. In our home we balance with both - house bound time for reflection, reading and quiet projects. Outside time -  bundling up and hitting the trails on foot, snowshoes or skies.

Fresh ingredients for warmth and grounding
Noodles with Lemon & Peas

When people are cold, they are told to huddle up and share their warmth.  Extend your home and hearth to friends and family.  Break bread together while we wait for the next transition of seasons.  Ahhh....back to my noodles!  This is a quick lunch or dinner that can easily be adjusted to suite your personal constitutional needs.  To get the recipe for Noodles with Lemon & Peas  click below
